Astrology Artists - A community for artists interested in astrology.

How to become a member: Note ~ astrologyartists with your sign and the subject “Joining” and your zodiac sign in the title. You will be added to the list under your sign. If you happen to be on a cusp or the dates below are different (they change by the years), than choose which you feel you are most like.

What we are all about: Members participate in monthly activities relating to astrology. Members also can ask questions and give tips, advice and share their knowledge through this community. Our monthly activities are “projects.” During each sun sign’s phase, members partake in creating art related to that sign, and at the end of that sign’s time, all submissions are gathered into a deviation and are voted on. Other activities will also take place as well as contests.

Project Sagittarius: November 22- December 21

For Project Sagittarius, your quest is to complete an artwork, prose, or poem relating to the highlighted sun sign. The project ends December 21st, and all submissions will be gathered, and a winner will be voted on by members. The winner shall receive a prize, which will be announced shortly. Submissions should be noted to ~astrologyartists before the due date with a link to the artwork, prose, or poem.

>Legend behind Sagittarius (excerpted from The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need by Joanna Martine Woolfolk): Sagittarius, the 9th sign in the zodiac, is depicted as an archer, but the archer is not an ordinary man drawing a bow. He is a centaur, that mythological creature who is half man and half horse. Sagittarius is the only astrological sign to have both a human and animal representation.
The constellation of Sagittarius, however, is not just any centaur. It is the great and wise Chiron, a son of the titan-god Saturn. Chiron was a friend and confidante of both gods and men. The gods taught Chiron the arts of medicine, hunting and riding, music, and prophecy. In turn, Chiron himself became a renowned teacher. Among his famous pupils were Achilles, Jason, Castor and Pollux, and Hercules.
One day, while the great Hercules was hunty a dangerous boar, he accidentally struck Chiron in the knee with a posonous shaft. Chiron suffered the agony of dying, but because he was immortal, he could not die. Hercules promised to find Death to release him. On his journey Hercules came across poor Prometheus, chained through out enternity to a rock where and eagle tore at his liver. The supreme god Jupiter had put a curse on Prometheus: his torture would last until someone of his own free will consented to suffer in his place. The dying Chiron took Prometheus's place. Thus, the curse was fulfilled. Chiron was allowed to die, and Prometheus was set free by Hercules.
After Chiron's death Jupiter rewarded his noble character by placing the heroic centaur among the stars, and he became the constellation Sagittarius.
